[작가 노트]
꽃을 피우리라 

​

나는 항상 추상을 통해 스스로와 마주해 왔다. 캔버스는 내면의 세계를 탐구하는 매개체였고, 작업은 치유와 내면의 표현, 그리고 나의 감정을 타인과 연결하는 과정이었다. 그러나 이번에는 완전히 다른 길을 선택했다.

처음에는 망설였다. 상업적인 꽃 그림이나 귀여운 동물 그림에 대한 거부감이 있었기 때문이다. 단순히 아름다움을 묘사하는 것이 과연 의미가 있을까? 깊은 사유와 내면의 고통, 치유의 과정 없이도 예술이 가치 있을 수 있을까? 하지만 시간이 지나면서 예술이 단순한 자기표현의 도구가 아니라, 소통의 매개체라는 사실을 깨닫게 되었다. 예술은 홀로 존재하는 것이 아니라, 공감과 연결, 그리고 감상자와의 교감을 통해 비로소 완성되는 것이었다.

이 깨달음은 한 재즈 피아니스트의 공연을 보면서 더욱 확고해졌다. 그의 관객은 일곱 살짜리 아이부터 노년의 감상자까지 다양했지만, 그는 모두가 음악을 즐길 수 있도록 자연스럽게 분위기를 조율하며 하나의 공유된 공간을 만들어 나갔다. 그 순간, 내 예술적 고집만을 고수하기보다 사람들과 자유롭게 소통하는 것이 더 큰 의미를 가질 수 있음을 깨달았다.

나는 늘 추상화의 자유로움에 끌려왔지만, 예술은 현실과 완전히 분리될 수 없는 법이다. 보다 많은 사람들에게 공감할 수 있는 작품을 고민하던 중, 꽃이 지닌 고요한 아름다움이 이를 위한 완벽한 매개체가 될 수 있다고 느꼈다. 동시에 따뜻하고 순수한 매력을 지닌 작은 동물들은 아이들에게 기쁨을 전하는 존재로 다가왔다.

그러나 내 작업은 점차 관람객들이 가장 매력을 느낄 만한 방향으로 자연스럽게 흘러갔다. 어느새 나는 꽃과 동물을 그리고 있었다. 하지만 단순한 묘사를 넘어, 익숙한 대상을 나만의 시선으로 재해석하는 것은 또 다른 도전이었다.

이번 전시를 준비하며 나는 "꽃을 피우리라"라는 의미에 대해 깊이 고민했다. 그리고 꽃을 그린다는 것은 단순히 그 아름다움을 담는 것이 아니라, 그 안에 나의 감정과 이야기, 그리고 예술적 본질을 녹여내는 과정이라는 것을 깨달았다. 오랜 고민과 탐색 끝에 마침내 나만의 꽃을 피워냈다.

이번 전시를 통해, 관람객들이 내가 피워낸 꽃들의 향기를 온전히 느끼고 몰입할 수 있기를 바란다. 그리고 무엇보다도, 이 전시가 각자의 삶 속에서 자신만의 꽃을 피울 수 있는 작은 영감이 되기를 소망한다.

Artist’s Note

Let the Flowers Bloom

My work explores ordinary indoor landscapes. Scenes captured in daily life begin with images from others’ social networks, showrooms for being displayed, model-houses. We may not know the hidden stories of others, but we envy the lives of others. And we develop a small curiosity about moments we want to own.

​

 In particular, by “Cropping” and “Expansioning" of the space limited to the indoor landscape, I tried to see through the desires of others that cannot be seen in the whole.  

My works contain reflections on ‘There are never absolute answers in any situation or feeling’ and ‘How easily people judge things related to other people by their own standards and unconsciously assign value freely’.

My art work through calm low saturations and ratio adjustments, a subtle sense of incompatibility was created in the space inside the canvas. 

 In the space designed to being shown-off, only people traces remain, in reality, no one exists within the artwork. 

The reason why there are only human traces left in the painting is that it was intended to look like part of a house(a space that serves as a boundary for a family to live in or has economic value), but it is not really a space that serves as  the setting for people's ordinary lives. It means absence of 'what ought to be present’.

​

I seek to find those things that have lost their original function in people's daily lives. 
Through the subtle sense of discomfort that appears in the subtle contradictions in daily life, it was intended to express the fundamental loneliness of humans by restraining them.
