작가노트 

 

나의 작업은 내가 매 순간 어떠한 생각을 하고 무엇을 경험하고 있는지가 담겨있는 기록이다. 그러나 나의 일상이 어떤지에 대해 적는 일기장과는 개념이 조금 다르다. 내가 직접 경험했던 것을 담기도 하지만 상상하는 것을 표현하기도 한다. 미풍이 몸에 닿으며 느껴지는 감촉, 나무의 냄새, 공기의 온도, 물이 흘러가는 소리처럼 내가 겪은 감각적 경험과 더불어 그 속에 존재하며 교감하는 나의 모습을 상상한다. 그 모습은 마치 꿈을 꾸는 것과도 같아서 뚜렷하게 형체가 잡힐듯 하면서 잡히지 않는다. 실존하는 것들과 그렇지 않은 것들이 경계 없이 뒤엉켜 있기 때문이다.

떠다니는 다양한 형태들의 사이로 보이는 선들과 흩어지듯이 표현된 아지랑이가 겹쳐지면서 내가 화폭 안의 어디에 존재하는지 상상하게 만들고 다른 질감과 두께의 물감과 천 조각들로 보는 이들에게 오묘한 회화적 공간을 만들어 주고 싶다.

내가 상상하고 느끼는 것이 나만의 것이 아닌, 보는 이들 또한 그들만의 시각으로 나의 작업을 받아들여주길 바란다.

Artist Statement​

 

Each of my painting becomes an archive of what I think and experience in every moment of my life. However, it is not like a diary, where I record my daily activities, since I blend my imagination with memories. My paintings particularly rest in depicting meditative and sensory aspects of nature such as; the touch of the breeze, the smell of the woods, the temperature of the air, the sound of water and leaves. My artwork then instills emotions and personal thoughts into the materials of the natural world. The overall figure of painting is unreachable in a sense it feels like a hallucination or a dream, where the boundary between the real and unreal becomes ambiguous.

Through my art making process, raw materials like clear primed linen and other traditional Korean fibers and threads expose themselves and reveal the simultaneously simple and complex beauty of nature, space and my mind. The spaces I create are very simple and flat yet the layers of different elements allows for a very subtle distortion of the space.
