​

꿈꾸는 소녀

​

나에게 동심은 삶의 실체이며, 동심에 대한 기억은 무한한 긍정의 에너지와 함께 내가 추구하는 삶이고, 표현하고 싶은 모티브다.
이루지 못할 수도 있는 꿈을 꾸는 순수한 정신은 동심에서 비롯된 것이고, 그것이 소멸되는 순간 나의 꿈도 멀어지는 것이다. 나는 작업을 통해 이미 형태가 굳어 버린 감성일지라도 무한히 변할 수 있는 무형의 존재가 되어 자유로워졌으면 한다.

​

나는 밝고 따뜻한 색감을 주로 사용하는 내 작업을 통해 심리적으로 나비처럼 가벼운 자유를 경험했다.  . 사소한 말이 노래의 가사가 되고 아름다운 음악이 되듯이, 사소한 일상, 생각, 상상들이 모여 꿈꾸는 소녀의 모티브가 되고, 따뜻한 감성이 순수한 아름다움이 되어 내가 꿈꾸는 형상을 만들어가고 있다.
나는 자유로운 내면의 어린아이와 대화하며, 부정적 자아보다는 긍정적 자아의 내면세계를 작품에 표현한다.  또한 일상을 작품으로 기록하는 것은 생각을 정리하고 무엇을 더 해야 하는지 깨닫게 해준다.

나의 감각을 언제나 마음껏 사랑하며 그것을 표현할 수 있어야 된다고 생각한다. 그러기 위해서는 어린아이의 순수함으로 항상 밝고 가벼운 기분으로 임해야 한다. 어린아이는 무엇이든 익히며 배우고 몸소 행동하고 창조하기 때문이다.
내 작품 속 모티브이기도 한 나비가 고통을 겪으며 변신하는 것은 창조적으로 춤을 추는 행위라 하겠다. 다른 누구의 생각을 따르기 보다는 자기 생각을 스스로 만들고 창조하는 것은 나비의 자유로운 몸짓과 어린아이의 순수하고 성스러운 긍정과 닮았다.
어린아이가 스스로 걷는 법을 배워 새로운 출발을 알리 듯 나비의 새로운 출발의 날개 짓은 최초의 움직임이며 창조의 시작이다.

“배움은 날마다 채우는 것이고, 도를 닦는 것은 날마다 비우는 것이다.(爲學日益爲道日損)“는 노자의 말처럼,

나에게 작업은 배움이고 도를 닦는 것이기도 하다. 나는 작업을 통해 익히고 배우며 또한 인내하고 비우는 법도 배웠다.
나는 순수하게 놀고 배우며 출발의 날개 짓을 하는 “꿈꾸는 소녀”인 것이다.

Artist Statement​

​

Dreamy Girl 

​

Holding on to childhood innocence is the core guiding principle of my life. Memories of my own childhood and recalling the sense of wonder with which I viewed the world, is something that I constantly pursue. 
The inspiration and energy that I draw from that pursuit is what I want to convey to my audience. 
Approaching life with the pureness of mind and spirit that comes with childhood innocence allows me to dream the impossible. 
 
It gives me access to the inexhaustible creative energy associated with youth. 
There is an inherent audacity to dream big that springs from innocence that I would lose if I did not hold on to it.    
 
I want to do more than accurately paint what is in front of me. Instead I recall the fantastical lens through which I saw things when I was a young girl, and I paint what childhood imagination says could be. I have learned how to focus my thoughts to harness that energy so that I can capture the whimsical inner landscape of innocence on canvass. To truly see the world as a child does, I should drop the cynicism that comes with age, and approach life with the lighthearted joy of childhood. For children everything is new and exciting, and that allows them to learn and create in ways that are usually foreclosed in later life.
 
By connecting with the girl I once was, and letting her live inside me, I take the experiences of my daily life and portray them in a way that is fresh and positive. Thus, the mundane becomes inspiration to create something new. 
Just as a few words in someone’s mind can become lyrics to a beautiful song, small things in life can grow into something beautiful. I use the warm sentiments of my inner thoughts and imaginings to create paintings that reflect the shapes and contours of my dreams.   
 
I hope that I can release some of this inner energy into the world through my art without constraining it too much in the process. It has boundless potential, and I want people to see that in my work. I want to share this energy because it has brought me a sense of freedom. I feel like the bright yellow butterfly in my painting, surrounded by light and warmth and poised to fly. I am the girl who dreamily flutters through life playing, exploring, and passionately expressing herself to those who would see.
