작가노트 

 

본인은 색채를 사용하여 사물에 대한 사실적인 전달보다는 감성 중심의 추상적인 표현을 강조하는 색면 추상을 주제로 하고 있다. 사용하는 색채도 자연 그대로 전이하기보다는 감성에 의해서 걸러진 색을 다양하게 사용한다. 이러한 본인의 노력은 단순한 사물의 외관보다는 본질적인 구조를 선, 면, 색이라는 세 가지 기본요소로 표출하려는 정신적 시도이다.

그래서 본인 작품의 시작은 몬드리안처럼 실체적 형상을 추상화하는 것에서 출발한다. 구체적 사물의 묘사와 같은 재현성을 제거하고 감각과 감성을 동원하여 추상형식으로 제작하는 것이다. 먼저 화면 전체를 수평과 수직으로 나누고 그 경계를 선으로 처리하였으며, 직선과 곡선 형태의 선 드로잉은 면과 면 사이를 유연하게 하였다. 

이를 바탕으로 형상을 추상화하고 색면 자체를 조형 요소로 삼았다. 이때 색면을 연속시키면서 색의 층에 중점을 두었으며 선은 자유롭게 표현하고 면은 기하학적으로 그 형태를 조합하여 화면에 조화로운 균형을 모색하였다. 그리고 다양한 질료를 사용해서 얕은 평면을 보완하여 화면의 질감을 높이도록 하였다. 이때 각각의 질료가 갖는 특성을 활용해 자연스러우면서 특징적인 화면 구성을 시도하였다. 물론 질료의 선택은 본인의 생각이지만 이 화면을 대하는 사람들은 각자의 경험과 상상력이 발동하여 사람마다 다른 감흥이 유발될 수 있다는 점에 착안한 것이다. 한편 섬세하게 조절된 톤(tone)을 바탕으로 보색의 장식적인 터치를 연출하였으며, 두껍게 칠해진 색면은 채도가 높고 삼원색에 가깝도록 처리하고 있다. 그리고 중첩된 붓질로 음영과 색에 의하여 깊은 물질감과 함께 색조의 평면성을 공존시키고자 하였다. 

이를 위한 작업의 흐름은 본인의 느낌, 직감, 열정에 따라 진행하면서 붓을 터치할 때마다 모든 감각과 감성을 담아내고 있다. 그러면서도 작업과정에서 표현대상에 대한 본질적인 심상의 색채를 그려내는데 세심함과 신중함을 잃지 않으려고 노력하고 있다.

Artist Statement

​

How my abstract works are painted

  

I take the color-field presentation by colors as my main means of abstract works to emphasize my sensitivity toward the matters rather than to convey the outward appearances of the matters. I use diversely strong colors, close to the three primary colors, to be filtered through my sensitivity and intuition rather than use naturally identical colors to the existence of the matters. My these endeavors are spiritual attempts to represent the essential substances of the matters by three basic elements of lines, fields and colors rather than to simply depict the external appearances of them.

The beginning of my works, accordingly, as Mondrian’s, starts to abstractionize the substantive conformation. The reproduction such as embodying the matters is excluded and an abstractive formativeness is created through my sensibility and sensitibity. In the beginning the whole surfaces of the pictures are divided horizontally and vertically. The boundaries are defined by lines, and the lines are drawn in straight and round to connect the fields and fields pliably.

On these bases the conformation of the matters are abstractionized and the color-fields themselves become the elements of the formativeness. At this very moment the color-fields are continued to put emphasis on the layers of colors. The lines are freely presented and the fields are geometrically made up or broken down their forms to keep harmonious balance on the pictures.

Moreover, various matricks are additionally used to compensate the shallowing flatness of the pictures to improve the qualitative sense in volume. At this point the specific characteristics of individual matricks are utilized to obtain a natural yet distinct feeling on the pictures. Of course 

the selection of the matricks is the thought of myself, but I perceive that the people facing these pictures will induce different inspirations individually according to their own experiences and imagenations.

In addition, on the ground of the tone delicately modulated around one color hue the complementary colors are decoratively applied. The color-fields are thikly painted in high saturation close to the three primary colors. By repeated blushing I try to coexist the deep feeling of matricks and the flatness of the color hues in shading and coloring.

The working for these is proceeded according to my feeling, intuition and passion, and whenever the brush is touched my sensibility and sensitivity are conveyed from. In these cases I am endevoring to be careful and prudent in drawing in colors the substantial images of the subjects of presentation.
